Dear Listener,

I hope that this mixtape exposes you to some new music – that you may discover musicians and bands you perhaps had not previously heard. If so, I encourage you to look up the artists’ other music – use this mixtape as a springboard for hearing more music.

I also hope that this mixtape shows you just how diverse Christian music is – just like the body of Christ which has created it. If there are genres on here that you wouldn’t usually listen to, don’t just skip past them, try hearing something new! I believe that each genre serves different purposes, thereby meaning that no one genre is necessarily better than another, but each has their own perks.

My prayer is that as you enjoy the music you would pass it to friends, family, colleagues, fellow church goers etc. Please pass it on, these artists work hard and their music deserves to be heard, enjoyed and supported by more Christians.

However, having said that, this music also needs to be shared with people who don’t know Christ. It’s got a great message and the world needs to hear it, so don’t be afraid to play it loud, and share it with those people you’d rather hide it from.

Also a massive thank you to all the artists that agreed to have their music given away for absolutely no cost. Please could you, as a listener, thank them with a purchase, a tweet, a like etc. and let them know it’s appreciated by you fans!

Finally, this is a SUMMER mixtape – this will be the soundtrack to my summer and I hope it becomes yours also. Thanks for listening, downloading, and supporting the blog and the artists involved.

In Christ,
Stephen Bradley,

Genre: Acoustic, Indie, Singer-Songwriter

This track is taken from Sean Carter’s album ‘The Telling‘, the name of which is inspired by a passage in C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Great Divorce‘. In ‘Turn The Page‘, Sean writes about how as we are challenged and convicted by scripture it is as if we are actually pulled in to the story as a direct witness to events. With a raw passion he sings about viewing Jesus’ death as a sinner – “sometimes I swear I think I hear my voice above the crowd “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!”. In the chorus, this then leads sean to proclaim the truth that Jesus forgives despite how we often sin against him. This is a truly brilliant and vivid telling of how powerfully scripture convicts us as we turn the pages of the bible.

Genre: Worship, Singer/Songwriter, Pop-Rock,

Singing and writing worship music since he was a teenager, Will Retherford takes on worship music slightly different to most artists. It’s clear on this 2011 release of his that he has spent years developing his own style and it’s that uniqueness that makes this song sound so fresh. There’s a hint of pop, a little bit of rock, and a lot of good songwriting. On this track, Will is also joined by Lisa Gungor who provides backing vocals for this upbeat worship song.

Lyrics:
(Verse 1)
Be wise in the heart, blameless from the start, build your house on the rock not the sand
Walk upright with the fear of the one who brings life to the dead and dry.

(Chorus)
When I fail your grace is always there for me
When I fail your mercy is surrounding me

(Verse 2)
Bring words to the soul like a sweet honeycomb that brings healing to the bones
Comes pride before a fall in my weakness you are strong you fulfill my emptiness

(Chorus 2)
When I fail your grace is always there for me
When I fail your mercy is surrounding me

(Bridge)
Fill our hearts with Joy
Fill our hearts with Hope
Fill our hearts with Love
Fill our hearts

Genre: Acoustic, Indie-Folk, Singer/Songwriter

If it wasn’t for Noisetrade I think this gem of an album would have easily slipped under the radar. This is from the first full length album from Thad Kopec, titled Heart of Man. Currently he lives in Nashville where he studies Religion but in his spare time creates amazing music like this. From his songs it’s obvious that he is a storyteller, his songs consisting of vivid imagery and poetic descriptions. This song is a good taste of the entire album, varied yet still consistent in style somehow, shown through the break down halfway through the song which reprises the melody, this time completely acoustic and much more intimate. Some listeners may miss Thad’s faith in his songs as it’s not overly obvious but the beautiful pictures he paints with his lyrical metaphors are more than a strong testament to God’s glory.

Strahan is a Christian musician from New Zealand and this song is taken from his debut full length album Posters. This is a truly exceptional album from Strahan and for a debut album it is incredibly confident and strong. This song as the opening track serves perfectly as the introduction to the rest of the album and sets the tone for what is to come. Filled with God glorifying lyrics though often not as overt as worship music, Posters is still an album all for His glory.

Genre: Pop, Singer/Songwriter, Acoustic, Christmas, Carol

This song is taken from Josiah James Christmas album, Heaven Came Down EP.

On this song, Josiah James is joined by the lead singer of Golden Youth, Stephanie Lauren, for a cover of the english carol, The First Noel. The teaming of vocals works really well on this song, and the harmonies sound absolutely beautiful on the chorus. The Christmassy sound is there, but it’s balanced and not overdone. Overall this is a brilliant piece of Christmas pop music, sure to find its way into your Christmas playlist!

Genre: Acoustic, Singer/Songwriter, Christmas, Carol

This song is taken from Jadon Lavik’s seasonal album, Christmas.

Jadon Lavik adds his acoustic flair to this classic carol and yet he maintains that wonderful Christmas vibe throughout the entire album. This is a song that makes me wish I was curled up in front of the fire, mulled wine in hand and singing along. Hopefully it makes you feel the same too, and if you love this version be sure to check out the rest of the album as it is filled with similarly wonderful covers of other Christmas classics!

Genre: Acoustic, Indie Pop, Singer/Songwriter

Dustin Ruth is the lead singer and songwriter of the Christian band Ruth. This song is taken from his brand new (literally released under an hour ago) EP Motion Picture. This is a sweet innocent sounding acoustic indie pop song asking gentle questions such as what can you ever be sure of, and where can you rest your head? It almost sounds like a young child asking questions to themselves, but always ending with the same Amen, as a hint that God is the answer. I could be wrong with my interpretation but either way it’s a great song, and a EP too (his first EP is also brilliant too!).

This song by Steph Macleod is a live version of the song Caught In The River from his latest album Deliverance. This is a song that Steph wrote about the prayer he said the night he made a commitment to Jesus. Steph is from Scotland and studied classical guitar at University, his style is now a range of folk, blues and jazz. His story is an amazing story of God’s grace as Steph was once a homeless man addicted to drugs and alcohol, but through the work of a Christian Centre that helps addicts, he came to Christ and has never struggled with his addictions since. A wonderful story, an amazing musician and a brilliant song.

Genre: Folk, Singer/Songwriter, Acoustic

In this brilliant acoustic song Josh Garrels describes the journey many people take as Christians and how through pain, suffering, trials and temptations we’ll only know further along why they served God’s purpose for shaping us to become who He wants us to be. A very well written song, and also incredibly honest which I’m sure many people can relate to. This song is taken from Josh Garrels’ 2011 album Love & War & The Sea In Between.
